Insightful interviewing is an essential component of factual programme making. It’s a skill that can be learnt and honed and this course is designed to equip with you the technical, creative, and interpersonal skills needed to obtain high-quality interviews.
From actuality interviews to formal sit-downs, we will spend two days developing your interviewing skills and experimenting with different techniques and approaches through a series of discussions and practical exercises. It’s aimed at anyone who conducts interviews for factual programmes – from researchers to PD’s and Series Producers – whether you’re starting out or a seasoned programme maker.
The course will run in a small group setting with a maximum of 8 participants. Part of the course will involve the use of state-of-the-art broadcast equipment but it’s not essential to have prior skills in operating this equipment. 
 
Course Content:
-    Different forms, approaches and styles of interview
-    Preparation, planning and structuring 
-    Using available light and different lighting set-ups
-    Focal length, framing and depth of field
-    Putting contributors at ease and building trust
-    Expectations and boundaries
-    Active listening and asking difficult questions 
-    Aftercare for yourself and your contributor
